Doğu Karadeniz sıradağları üzerinde bulunan ve Demirkapı ismini taşıyan altı geçit bölgesi var. Bu adlandırmalar tesadüfi değildir. Kaynaklarda ilk defa Orhun Yazıtlarında rastladığımız Demirkapı adlandırmasına Türk Dünyası’nda yaygın bir şekilde rastlanılması, konunun bir bütün olarak ele alınmasını gerektirir. Bunu açıklamak için, Özbekistan’da, Kafkasya’da ve Tuna nehri üzerinde Demirkapı ismini taşıyan, coğrafi ve tarihi bakımdan önemli olan üç noktayı seçtik. Orta Asya, Kafkasya ve Doğu Avrupa’da mevcut ve tarihi ve coğrafi bakımdan ortak özelliklere sahip bu üç nokta, bir yol sistemi üzerinde, dar bir geçit noktası ve bu noktada bir kontrol sistemine sahiptir. Buradan hareketle Demirkapı ismini taşıyan diğer yerlerin, bu ismi almasının bir rastlantı olmadığını söyleyebiliriz. Bu isimlendirme geleneğinin sahibi Türkler ve Türk kültürü, bu bölgelerin tarihi arka planında önemli yer tutmaktadır. Bu arka plan bize, Demirkapı adlandırmasının, tarihin eski dönemlerinden bu yana, çok geniş coğrafyada etkin olmuş Türk Kültürünün demir kazıkları olduğuna işaret eder. Bölgelerin günümüzdeki siyasi ve ekonomik durumuna rağmen, Demirkapı adlandırmasının Türkçeden sonra yerel dillere de çevrilerek devam etmesi ve benimsenmesi de bu arka planın bir tezahürüdür.
On the Eastern Black Sea mountain range, there are six passes named Demirkapı (trans. Irongate). These names are not coincidental. The naming of Demirkapı, which we first came across in the Orhon Inscriptions, is widely seen in the Turkish World, hence this topic needs to be dealt with as a whole. To explain this, we have selected three geographically and historically significant locations named Demirkapı in Uzbekistan, in the Caucasus and on Danube River. These three locations in Central Asia, the Caucasus and Eastern Europe have historical and geographical common features: each is located at a narrow gateway point and has a control system on that point. In this respect, we can say that other places are not coincidentally named Demirkapı. Turks and Turkish culture, which is the source of this naming tradition, have an important place in the historical background of these regions. This background tells us that the naming of Demirkapı is the iron stakes of Turkish Culture, which has been active in a wide geography since the ancient periods of history. Despite the current political and economic situation of the regions, the continuation and adoption of Demirkapi name via translating it into local languages after Turkish is a manifestation of this background.
