Ankara sancağında yaklaşık üç asır kaza konumunda olan Şorba, halen varlığını sürdürmüyor. Günümüzde Şorba kazâsı köyleri, Kızılcahamam, Çubuk, Kahramankazan ve Çankırı hududları içerisinde kalmıştır. 19. yüzyılda kaza merkezi Pazar kasabası idi ve Şorba 64 köyden oluşmaktaydı.

Çalışmada kullanılacak olan 1794 numaralı H. 1258/ M. 1842 tarihli olup Şorba kazâsına ait son nüfus defteridir.  Bu nüfus defterinde kazaya bağlı olan köylerdeki vergi mükellefleri ve askere gidebilecek erkek kişiler ve erkek çocuklar kaydedilmiştir. Aynı zamanda kazada bulunan köy, şahıs ve baba isimleri, meslek, lakap, yaş, eşkâl gibi birçok veriyi nüfus defterlerinden bulmamız mümkündür. Bununla birlikte kadın nüfus sayıma dâhil edilmediği için gerçek nüfus hakkında kesin bir bilgiye ulaşılamıyor. Bu çalışmadaki amaç, nüfus defterinin ışığında kazadaki köylerin isimleri ile birlikte şahıs adları, lakaplar ve eşkâl kayıtlarından yeni bilgiler ortaya çıkarmaktır. Ayrıca bu dönemde kazadaki nüfus yoğunluğu az ve çok olan köyler, köy isimlerinin kökenleri, kazada en çok kullanılan şahıs isimleri, bu isimlerin kökeni, kişilerin kullandığı lakaplar nelerdir, sorularına da yanıt aranmıştır.

Şorba, which has been in the position of an district in the Subprovince of Ankara for about three centuries, still does not exist. Today, the villages of Şorba subprovince remain within the borders of Kızılcahamam, Çubuk, Kahramankazan and Çankırı. In the 19th century, the district center was the town of Pazar, and Şorba consisted of 64 villages.

The number 1794 to be used in the study is dated H. 1258 / M. 1842 and is the last population register of the Şorba Subprovince. In this population register, taxpayers in the villages connected to the Subprovince and male persons and boys who can go to the military are recorded. At the same time, it is possible to find many data such as village, person and father names, profession, nickname, age, appearance from the population registers. However, since women are not included in the census, there is no exact information about the real population. The aim of this study is to reveal new information from the names of the villages in the district as well as the names of the individuals, nicknames and appearance records in the light of the population register. In addition, in this period, the villages with a low and high population density in the district, the origins of the village names, the names of the most used persons in the subprovince, the origin of these names, what are the nicknames used by the people, answers were also sought.
